Emergency Aid Appeal for Burmese Disaster

Dear Friend,

On Saturday May 3rd. Cyclone Nargis smashed into Burma brining winds of up to 120 mph and leaving up to one million people homeless. Early reports indicate that there may be over 100,000 deaths and worse to come as a result of famine and disease due to poor hygiene.

Although we do not have a direct link with this nation, our hearts are stirred with compassion as the full extent of this disaster is revealed. Colin Dudgeon, Director of the Christian charity ‘Asia Link’, reports that in the worst hit area of the Irrawaddy Delta, there are four leaders missing who were involved in a church planting programme. Also, that their training centre in Rangoon has been devastated by high winds. Hundreds of thousands of people are suffering across this nation.

ActionOverseas has discovered that it is possible to deliver humanitarian aid, even though the authorities are resisting intervention from the West. There is an avenue via Thailand through which we can send direct help, including food, blankets and medical supplies. We urge you to pray for those pursuing this course of action, as you prayerfully remember the victims of this cyclone.

If you would like to make a donation in response to this need in Burma, then please send cheques to:

Andrew Saunders [The Administrator, The Apostolic Church, PO Box 389, 17 Towe Business Village, Phoenix Way, Enterprise Park, Swansea, SA7 9LA]

or Nigel Bainbridge [The Ark, Noah’s Ark Road, Dover, Kent, CT17 0DD]

Cheques should be made payable to ‘ActionOverseas’, as we have an Emergency Relief Fund which is currently valid for this sort of issue.

Thank you.

Yours in Christ,

Eric Parker

Chairman, ActionOverseas
