Youth trip (2018)
ActionOverseas has a strong relationship with Hungary for over ten years. In August 2018 there will be a Youth Trip to Hungary and Serbia. Using the Budapest – Belgrade railway line as the backbone for the trip, the group will visit both Serbia and Hungary. Activities will include helping with an English language programme, street outreach and sports. It is hoped that in 2019 a group of Hungarian young people will the UK for a similar experience.
ActionOverseas believes in the strategic role of the Hungarian Apostolic Church in Europe. They will appoint a new national leader this month. For the past eight years Pastor Bálazs Pék has led the Hungarian church. ActionOverseas is thankful to God for the growth of the UK-Hungary partnership during Pastor Bálazs’ leadership tenure.
In March 2017, Pastors Jason Pennington and Nigel Bainbridge visited Uzghorod in the south-western corner of Ukraine. This visit flowed out of a connection between Pastor Jason and Ebbw Vale’s link church (Miskolc in Hungary). Subsequently following this first visit to Ukraine, Pastors Gi-Jung Song and Nigel Bainbridge developed the link with a visit that included Kiev, Lviv and Uzghorod. Igor Grishajev of Global Action is the link person inside Ukraine.
Pastors Glen Chaplin and Nigel Bainbridge travelled with Eddie Fletcher (Hope Church, Penzance) to Albania and Greece. The Albanian Apostolic Church is healthy and expanding. The majority of Albanians are Muslims. Radical Islam is gaining a presence in Albania.
Glasgow City Church are continuing to grow connection with Platone Christian Centre in Latvia. Board Chairman, Pastor Mark Chenery, was at the special anniversary service in September 2017.
